L.I.U SCHOLARSHIP FOR DESERVING STUDENTS
L.I. U’s Scholarship for deserving students; (SDS) offers financial aid opportunities targeting academically talented yet economically disadvantaged youth, often covering tuition, accommodation, and living expenses. It aims to building leadership, increasing and foster development in rural communities. It’s a grant to the Rural community.
- Eligibility & Selection: The Scholarships are designed to bridge the opportunity gap for individuals from geographically isolated, sparsely populated, or economically disadvantaged areas. Criteria often focus on proving rural residency, financial need, and a commitment to returning to or serving those communities.
GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION & RESIDENCY
- Defined Rural Area: Applicants must reside in an area classified as regional, or remote according to specific government definitions.
- Residency Duration: Often requires proof of living in a rural area for a minimum number of years (e.g., five consecutive or eight cumulative years from age five).
- Rural Schooling: Attendance at a rural primary or high school for a set period is often prioritized. Preference is given to students from economically distressed areas.
COMMUNITY COMMITMENT & LEADERSHIP
- Intention to Return: Many rural scholarships require a statement or essay expressing a desire to return to a rural community to work after graduation
- Letters of Recommendation: Recommendations from community leaders, teachers, or, in the case of agricultural scholarships, local farmers.
SPECIFIC FIELD OF STUDY
- Targeted Fields: Many rural scholarships aim to fill local shortages, prioritizing degrees in agriculture, healthcare (nursing, pharmacy, dental), education, or technology.
- Types of Support: Full Scholarships: Cover 100% of costs, including tuition, accommodation, and sometimes travel or placement fees for medical students.
- Partial Scholarships: Provide partial tuition support based on merit and need. These scholarships aim to ensure that financial hardship does not stop determined students
from achieving their educational goals.
